There was a reason he didn't dance with her much at Prom, a reason he pulled away when she got close. His emotions were interfering with his logic, and he needed to get out of there before he hurt her- before she would discover the truth.
But then again, something made him hesitate. His conversation with Usagi- saying that Rei deserved to know and make her own judgements. This was part of that, right?
