[Another pause- as if he wants to say anything else- but he switches the PCD off.]

I am willing to take Jean Louis' responsibilities in addition to my own. If anyone has questions or concerns, please refer back to me. Beka Cooper is also missing, but I have retrieved some of the maps she managed to make. We will have to reorganize a little to allow for her absence. Were you some sort of detective in your own world?

[Curious.]

We all have some issue with teamwork. It's something that can improve over time.

Kind of, but only one member of our division used to be an actual detective- he worked for the police. I only looked into these matters in one section of Japan- unless another needed help for some reason.

I worked in Nagasaki a lot.

[Why he still feels the need to not outright say he's a shinigami is habit.]

Some people found it hard to work with me, but I enjoy working with other people.

Alright. I'm sure we could use someone with that kind of background.

Why is it difficult to work with you, do you think?

They.. couldn't take how I was after a case- I felt too much for the person who had to pass on. Too emotional. They couldn't get along with me sometimes, on how I saw the job or did it. Sometimes it was how I thought of my shikigami as friends instead of just tools to summon.

I didn't use the power I had to move out of the division to work where I'd be more useful.

[Shaking his head.]

Things like that. My latest partner has been with me a long time, though.

Too many emotions while on the squad can lead to inefficiency and even put teammates in danger.

[He frowns.]

All of that was when I first started working, Mandrake-san. I've improved after seventy years.

[.. That's not a lie, he just goes to drink himself senseless after really bad cases where he has to kill someone who shoul have been given a chance.]

Yes, or close enough to it, give or take a year or so. I know I don't look anywhere near that old.

Is there a specific reason for that?

[A little sharper than he intended it to sound.]

Side-effect? Or something like that, because of my job position. This body doesn't age like a normal human body, heals a lot faster, and can take a lot of damage.

[.. Funnily enough his body was like that before he became a god of death, somewhat.]

...what was your job? You mentioned a- shikigami?

Yes, shikigami- it's a being that I can summon to aide me in battle when I'm sent out on a job and encounter somethin I can't fight with ofuda magic alone. They used to be gods, well still are really, but people stopped believing in them and praying to them.

They're still really powerful, they just live in a seperate dimension from Earth that only a guardian to one of the doors can access and allow others into that world.
